See availability of visiting Maine Right Here!
Did you know that Maine’s tagline (it’s on our license plates) is Vacationland. Guess what – if you’re a friend of ours, you can stay in this beautiful place FO FREE.
We live right next to downtown Portland, Maine – you can walk there, and we have a 2 bedroom apartment, so a guest room can be set up for you.
Here’s some fun things to do in Maine:
- Eat lobster (we make it for way cheaper at our house)
- Hang out in Portland, Maine – which has a great small city feel and awesome breweries
- Go to the beach and see the coast
- Go to the rocky coast
- See lighthouses
- Go to the White Mountains (actually in NH, but close enough)
- Go to the lakes region (Sebago, Rangely, Bridgton, etc.)
- Baxter State Park
- Acadia National Park
- Fall leaf peeping
- The best east coast downhill skiing (yeah, if you ski the west, don’t plan on anything impressive here, but if you ski the east, this is the place to do it)
- Cross Country Skiing
- Go to the original L.L. Bean Flagship store – open 24/7 (not kidding)
- And more – and we love doing all of these things
Getting Here
Nate has a rule – if it’s east of the Rockies, fly to the Jetport. If it’s west of the Rockies, fly to Boston.
East of the Rockies
Fly to Portland International Jetport (Yes, it’s a Jetport) – PWM (DON’T FLY TO PDX unless you want to be on the wrong coast). The Jetport is max 15 minutes away from our house, and the security line is basically nothing.
- American has great, cheap flights to National (DCA) and Charlotte (CLT), and of course they connect
- Flights to Philly are pretty expensive, unfortunately…
- There are direct flights in the summer from Denver – but you have to fly Frontier or United, so fly at your own risk.
West of the Rockies
Fly to Boston (Alaska’s a great airline) and then take Concord Coach Lines from Logan straight to Portland, ME. This bus comes every 1-2 hours and makes no stops on your way up to Maine. Even during rush hour it’s a max 2.5hr trip. Nate uses this option on his monthly trips to the West Coast.
Concord Coach drops you off 5 minutes away from our house – again, this is direct from Logan. You will spend less time traveling if you use this option because if you connect you have to wait. We typically wait no more than 30 minutes for a bus. And your ticket is good for a year – so if you miss one bus, you can just catch the next one.
The only trick is make sure you get on the Concord Coach that is destined for Portland, ME. The drivers try to reiterate this several times – that they’re going to Portland, ME, so it makes us think that maybe people end up in Concord, NH and wanted to be in Portland…that’s a bad deal. No worries – the Portland bus says on its digital display “PORTLAND” in big letters, and the Bus Driver should shout that they’re going to Maine. So if you look and listen, you’ll be fine.
So, come! We’d love to have you!
